Richard D. Milone has more than 35 years of experience representing policyholders in substantial insurance coverage disputes throughout the United States. He has represented clients in trials, appeals, arbitrations, and negotiations involving a broad range of business liabilities and losses, including directors’ and officers’ liability, professional liability, false advertising, asbestos and other toxic torts, event cancellation, cyber liability, False Claims Act claims, and environmental liabilities.

Mr. Milone began his insurance recovery career in 1991, working alongside some of the pioneering lawyers in the field on major environmental and toxic tort insurance coverage litigation. He subsequently became a partner at several leading national law firms, including Jones Day and Kelley Drye, before establishing Milone Law Firm PLLC in 2020.

In addition to his insurance recovery practice, Mr. Milone has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation and business counseling. He served as Chair of the Washington, DC Litigation Department of a major national law firm, as U.S. General Counsel to a German-owned restaurant chain, and in the management of an intellectual property holding company.

Matt Jacobs spent the majority of his career as a Chambers-rated policyholder insurance coverage lawyer. As an associate, he worked in Covington’s insurance recovery practice before joining K&L Gates (then Kirkpatrick & Lockhart) as a partner (for 18 years), eventually leading the DC office and its 14 insurance-group professionals. He then joined Jenner & Block as a partner in 2007, where he served for 11 years and became co-chair of Jenner’s insurance recovery practice. He ended his full-time legal career and retired in December 2023 as Of Counsel in Jones Day’s highly-rated insurance recovery practice.

Throughout his career, Matt was recognized by Chambers, the American Lawyer, the Legal Times and several DC-based Bar publications as one of the top insurance recovery lawyers in DC (the most recent recognizing him as one of “the top 10” insurance coverage lawyers in DC in 2022). He was on the Editorial Board of the Environmental Claims Journal, and was also on the Board of the Journal of Insurance Coverage. He taught an insurance coverage practice seminar to third-year law students at the University of Virginia (his alma mater) along with Professor Ken Abraham, and is now a Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University Law School, teaching an insurance law course that involves drafting complaints, answers, discovery requests and summary judgment motions. He attended Princeton University (class of 1977) and received his undergraduate certificate from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs (now the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs). He grew up in Bethesda, Maryland and now lives in Washington, DC with his wife. His two adult sons live in Amsterdam and Washington, DC.
